Football Season in about 45 days away

It's hard to believe, even with the 90 degree temperatures, that college football season will be here in 6 weeks. And college football in the south is above all a social occasion where some football is played.

I attended the University of Virginia where the dress code for games was Laura Ashley/Lilly Pulitzer dresses for the girls and blue blazer and school tie for the guys.

I found this site a couple days ago and just love it.

Decorating another Very Small Wall

Each bedroom at our summer house has a small sliver of wall between the bathroom and the closet. I put the Lilly Pulitzer shift prints in the master bedroom and need something for the 2nd bedroom.

I have had these plaster angels forever and spray painted them. I think they kind of look like the carvings that used to be on the fronts of old wooden sailing ships.

The shells are from a trip to Duck, NC last fall. And the boat was attached to a wedding present. I found it in a drawer while I was cleaning out.

A Very Inexpensive Doormat

I saw this great project on another blog but cannot remember who to give credit to. But anyway, all you need a 4 bamboo placemats from Dollar Tree, Duct Tape, Scissors and a piece of fabric(I used duck cloth) for the center.

Then lay the placemats out in a square.

Then duct tape everything together well.

Here is the finished product. Let's see how long it lasts.

Monogram Ribbon Canvas

I am slowly trying to redecorate Miss K's room and make it a bit more grown-up. I'm trying to combine a pink and green theme with Tinker Bell.

So I took a 16 x 20 canvas and 9 different ribbons, cut the ribbons to length, and put then in a basketweave pattern.

I used push pins to hold the ribbons in place.

I then stapled the ribbons in place.

I then glittered a chipboard letter K and glued it to the canvas.

My New Secret to Great Deviled Eggs

When you have chickens, deviled eggs are always a super easy thing to take to a party or make when we're having people over. Last weekend I had what I thought was my own brilliant idea to use cream cheese instead of mayonnaise for the filling. So used used the yolks, 8 oz. of cream cheese, garlic salt pepper and 1 tablespoon of Old Bay. The centers ended up being much firmer and much easier to pipe out of a piping bag.

I then put the eggs in this great new carrier I got at Walmart.

After the weekend we went back home and I found these great http://www.loveofcooking.com/news/simply-deviled-eggs-5-new-recipes/ for deviled eggs that includes cream cheese as an ingredient. So it was a brilliant idea, just one I'd already seen in a magazine.

S'mores Kit

The children and adults in our summer neighborhood love s'mores. So I decided to make a kit with everything you need, so that we could just grab it and go.

I found these great sticks that actually telescope at Target for $1 each.

I then spray painted an old market basket and loaded everything in. I've been keeping a cold pack in the freezer to throw under the Hershey bars so they don't melt before they should.

Make one for yourself this summer.

Guess It Would Help if I Included a Pic of the Fabric

Here is the fabric for the inside of the Glamper!

The Inspiration for the Inside of the Glamper

I found this fantastic fabric at a local interior designer for $5/yard. Thought it would be perfect for the inside of the Glamper. Very colorful, very vintage. I really could not continue too much of the pink and green theme inside. I have to depend on my husband to get this camper from place to place. BTW I cannot park vehicles very well.

I bought the entire bolt. Hopefully that will be enough.

Cupcakes Fit for A Fairy

Miss K has two favorite people right now: Tinker Bell and Rapunzel. So for her birthday I decided to make Tinker Bell themed cupcakes. I found this fantastic recipe for a Key Lime Cake over at Skip to the Lue. Here is a link to the recipe. The recipe uses lime jello and makes the cupcakes bright green.

I used the icing recipe from Skip to the Lue as well but did not add the 1 Tablespoon of orange juice so the icing would be stiffer. I dyed it a bright purple.

I then added some sanding sugar as pixie dust and a Tinker Bell cupcake topper.

This recipe is just perfect. Not too tart from the lime and not too sweet. The cupcakes were very moist too.

Beachy Wreath

I have had this wreath since right after I got out of college. It used to be one of my Christmas wreaths. It is made out of corn husks. I pulled all the holiday junk off it and thought the husks looked like beach grass so I turned it into a Beachy wreath.

I glittered some seashells.

And painted some summery wooden shapes to add to the wreath.

I just love how it turned out.

Sea Glass Art

I found this project on Madigan Made and just had to do it myself. She has a great tutorial, but here's how I did it.

I got an 11 x 14 frame and took a piece of mat board cut to size and covered it with sand.

I got four bags of glass gems from Dollar Tree in blue and clear. So I poured all those in a bowl and started to lay them all out on the frame.

You'll want to lay all the glass gems out before you start ot glue them down. I tried to make a wavy look. So you've got the sand and the water.

I then glued them all down with E6000.

I have a scallop shell to add to the corner of the frame as soon as I find it.

Quote of the Week

My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy! ~Thomas Jefferson
